New Song
Finding Hope (Original Composition)
I’m not really sure about the title. I’m having trouble coming up with one, oh well. xD It was inspired by a scene in a book, where the main character has a rare moment of despair, eventually remembering that things “never get as bad as they could be.”
I can’t play piano all that well yet, so I made this in GarageBand with the MIDI piano there. I’m not very good at messing with the EQ and such, but I made an attempt at it. I found the Master Track reverb settings and I’ve been experimenting. I turned down the reverb around the louder section because it was getting a bit dissonant. Speaking of volume, I used the note velocity setting to make some sections louder/quieter than others, you can change individual note volume too, it’s cool.
Anywho. Tell me what you think.
SoundCloud
I have a SoundCloud now, you can check it out here: soundcloud.com/joshua-taipale
I’ve now posted my original songs in the “My Music” section of my blog! I’ll be adding onto it whenever I post something new.
2 New Songs
I’ve written a couple new songs inspired by Motoi Sakuraba’s Mario Tennis: Power Tour soundtrack, based on the instrumentation and stuff in that game’s music. I used TuxGuitar, my go-to program for transcribing stuff, to write them out, and Garageband for the final instrumentation and edits.
Theme of Ace (Original Composition)
Writing Ace’s theme was an interesting process. It took a while to actually get started with something, and even then I changed the intro chords a bit when I finished the rest of the song. The main flute melody after the intro was gonna be a prechorus-type thing, I ended up deleting everything beforehand and replacing it with said melody. I like the more unique chords in the part after that, that’s probably my favorite thing about this song. Pretty short, but I like how it turned out.
Final Match ~ (Original Composition)
I was gonna start working on a different song when the intro melody here came to mind. I was only going to write that out so I wouldn’t forget it, but ended up adding more onto it and completed the song within only an hour or so. I think it turned out fairly well for such a quick writing process.
I will be getting these and other songs up on SoundCloud and added the the My Music page eventually, probably over the weekend. And yes, I know these have all been MIDI songs so far, I will be getting some stuff up soon that actually has some of my guitar playing.
Tennis? What is This Sorcery?!
So, I’ve been into the music from Mario Tennis: Power Tour lately. In case you don’t know, it’s a 2005 GBA game, with a fantastic soundtrack made by Motoi Sakuraba. I’ve transcribed a couple of the songs: The main menu theme, and the “academy grounds” theme. They both sound pretty neat. These are my first attempts at transcribing drums, and I think it’s gone well. Still learning what all Garageband can do, I’m using it to arrange and export the final remixes.

Transcribing Bass
Hey, why not actually make a post? xD So, I’ve been working on a Sonic Adventure 2 guitar tab thing with another guy. Been working on Radical Highway “Vengeance is Mine.” Guitar’s done, drums are done, synth done-ish… I might edit the guitar a touch just for ease of playing… I need to do the bass. That’s always fun, haha. I can’t hear it very well this time, interestingly. I think it’s just following the guitar, with the exception of a few fills. We’ll see. I’ll get that done this weekend and move on to another song.
Welcome!
Welcome to my blog. Feel free to check out the guitar tabs, or some of my compositions…
